Ricardo Valdez Valentine, better known by his moniker 6lack (pronounced ‘Black’) is an Atlanta-based R&B artist with soul and rap influences. Prior to becoming an R&B artist, 6lack was a professional battle rapper. His desire to write songs and make something more of himself were two of the driving forces in his career switch. 6Lack is infamously quoted as saying it took him 10,000 hours to make his transition.

With his new goal in mind, 6lack released several standalone singles (such as “Bless Me” and “Loyal”) prior to the release of his first album, Free 6lack. The album’s lyrics revolve around issues with record labels and finding his identity. Popular songs include: “Loyal,” “Ex Calling,” and “PRBLMS,” all of which have over a million listens on SoundCloud.
