Joy Williams
Singer-songwriter Joy Williams was born on November 14, 1982 in Santa Cruz, California. She started singing in church as a child and wrote Christian-pop songs as well. She signed with Reunion Records at age 17 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2001 to pursue her music career.
While with Reunion, she released five albums between 2001 and 2006. She was nominated for multiple Dove Awards and her first three albums sold over 250,000 copies. She decided to leave Reunion Records because her views had changed. In 2006, she signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell and after meeting husband, Nate Yetton, founded Sensibility Music. She released three EPs on Sensibility before starting the duo the Civil Wars with John Paul White in 2009. They album, “Barton Hollow” was released in 2011 and sold over 650,000 copies in the United States. They won four Grammys together. In August 2014, they announced that they were dissolving the duo. In late 2013, she collaborated with Chris Cornell on the song “Misery Chain” for the “12 Years a Slave” soundtrack. She also collaborated on tracks with Matt Berninger and Hayley Williams. July 2015 marked the release of her album, “Venus.” It peaked at number ten on the Billboard Top Alternative Albums chart and number three on the Billboard Folk Albums chart.
