Kerli
Kerli, born as Kerli Koiv on February 7th, 1987 in Elva, Estonia is a singer and songwriter that began her musical career as a child in various singing competitions and learning classical music. Growing up she only had the albums of Bonnie Tyler and Phil Collins as her primary influences of popular music.
In 2002 she began to sing more seriously in competitions. She won the Laulukarussell competition with the song “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” She also won the Fizz Superstar competition and gained a record contract with Universal Republic Records and then switched to the label Stolen Transmission before the label went bankrupt. In 2006 she moved to the U.S. and gained an audition with L.A. Reid who then signed her to the Island Def Jam Music Group.
In 2008 Kerli released her debut album Love is Dead. The single “Walking on Air” charted at number 75 on the European Hot 100 chart. A follow up single called “Creepshow” was then featured on the T.V. shows Fringe, The City, and the video game Burnout Paradise. The single “Walking on Air” was downloaded over 550,000 times on iTunes and the album charted at 126 on the Billboard 200. In 2015 she produced her second solo album and featured the song “Racing Time” which ended up on the soundtrack for the movie Alice Through the Looking Glass.
