Keziah Jones
Singer-songwriter Keziah Jones was born Olufemi Sanyaoiu on January 10, 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria. At age eight, he was sent to London to become educated with the plan that he would follow in his father’s footsteps as chief of the Yoruba people in Nigeria. At age thirteen, he started teaching himself piano and found music as a way to escape his family’s desires.
He was discovered while playing on the street in London by Phil Peckett. He was signed to Delabel Records in 1992 and released his debut album, “Blufunk is a Fact.” Over the course of the next two decades, he released seven more albums and three EPs. The album, “Black Orpheus,” reached number thirteen on French S.N.E.P chart in 2003, and the album, “Nigerian Wood,” reached number four on that same chart in 2008. Jones had an acting part in the film, “Eva & Leon,” a French film released in 2015.
