Kvelertak

Coming from Stavanger, Norway, Kvelertak is a hardcore punk, heavy metal rock band found in 2007. Kvelertak means “Chokehold” in English. Their music was often compared with Satyricon, another Norwegian rock band. Kvelertak’s early demo “Westcoast Holocaust” gave them a fan base, and by 2010, they were able to release their debut album.

Under Oslo’s Indie Recordings, Kvelertak became a global hit despite their lyrics being all Norwegian. Their sledgehammer sound was praised, and their mash-up of different genres earned them a gold record. They also received two Spellemann Awards, something similar to the Grammys in Norway. Under Sony Music, they released their second album “Meir.”
