La India
La India is the stage name of the Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Linda Viera Caballero. She was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on March 9, 1969. Soon after she was born her family moved to New York City in the South Bronx. She started singing from a young age and briefly took opera lessons. At 16 years old, she co-founded the Latin freestyle group TKA. After leaving the group she was signed as a solo artist to the label Reprise/Warner Bros. Records. In 1990 she released her debut studio album titled Breaking Night and has since released the albums Llego La India, Via Eddie Palmieri, Dicen Que Soy, Jazzin, Sobre el Fuego, Sola, Latin Songbird: Mi Alma y Corazón, India: Grandes Exitos, Soy Diferente, Unica, and Intensamente Con Canciones de Juan Gabriel. She has also released three compilation albums and two EPs and has made contributions to numerous other artists songs and albums. Throughout her career she has been nominated for several awards and has won a Latin Grammy Award and three Billboard Latin Music Awards.
