Emeli Sandé
Jazz and soul singer Emeli Sandé was born Adele Emily Sandé on March 10, 1987, in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, in England. As a young girl, her musical talents were mainly instrumental, as she was a skilled piano and clarinet player. She began writing her own songs and performing them for friends and family, and soon turned that into a career writing songs for big names such as Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, and Leona Lewis, a job she got after signing with EMI.
After her success in writing songs for others, EmeliSandé released her debut single entitled “Daddy” in 2010, and the next year, she won the award for Best Breakthrough Act at the Brits. Her success with the single was followed by the release of her first studio album Our Version of Events in February 2012. Another single off that album, ”Read All About It”, shot to the #1 slot on the UK Singles Chart, and she was fortunate enough to sing at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she performed another critically acclaimed single “Heaven”.
