Rocko
Adding his name to the list of Atlanta rappers is Rodney Hill, known better by his stage name Rocko. Born on December 28, 1979, his foray into the music industry began in the late 1990s when he worked as a producer, later establishing his label Rocky Road Records. In 2005, Rocko was signed to Def Jam records, releasing his first studio album entitled Self Made in early 2008. Guest vocals on the album were provided by fellow artists Lloyd, Dre, and Monica. The single “Umma Do Me”, which was the first off the album, managed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
After walking away from Def Jam Records, Rocko created another of his own labels, this time calling it A-1 Records, through which he released the mixtape-turned-album Wild Life. He followed the success of the album with the mixtapes Rocko Dinero and Gift of Gab in 2011, Wordplay in 2012, and Lingo 4 Dummys in 2014. In honor of poet Maya Angelou, he released an EP entitled Poet with guest vocals from Nas.
