Roberto Tapia
Born on March 23, 1979, Roberto Tapia is a native of San Diego, California. His parents had immigrated to the U.S. from Sinaloa, Mexico, shortly before he was born, and returned to the country just a few years later. In 1990, Tapia attended Difocur School of Music in the Sinaloan state of Culiacán, where he excelled in playing the clarinet. He was highly involved in the Symphony of Sinaloa and established a knack for public performance.
When he was 13, he and his family moved back to the United States, where Tapia would continue to wow crowds with his performances. After signing with Sony International in the early 2000s, Roberto Tapia released his debut self-titled album in 2002, which gained much attention for its unique blend of Latin rhythm with hip-hop and electronic music. He went on to release Los Amigos through Machete Music in 2008, and included some reggaeton on the new album as well as Latin pop. His third album, El Niño de la Tuna was released in 2009, and the title song was his breakthrough in Mexico. He later released La Batalla in 2010.
