Aaron Neville
R&B and soul singer Aaron Neville was born on January 24, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He released his first hit single, “Tell It Like It Is”, in 1967. The song topped the Billboard R&B chart for 5 weeks and also reached #2 on the Hot 100. In 1977, Aaron and brothers Art, Charles and Cyril began performing together as “The Neville Brothers.” They released their self-titled debut album in 1978. The brothers went on to release eight more studio albums including Uptown (1988), Yellow Moon (1989), Brother’s Keeper (1990), Family Groove (1992) and, most recently, the 2004 album Walkin’ in the Shadow Of Life.
In addition to his work with his brothers, Aaron Neville has released sixteen solo studio albums. His highest charting albums are The Grand Tour (1993) and 2006’s Bring It On Home. . .The Soul Classics, both of which peaked at number 37 on the Billboard 200. Other albums include To Make Me Who I Am (1997), Devotion (2000), and I Know I’ve Been Changed (2010.) His latest album, My True Story, was released in January of 2013. He has had several hit songs including “Don’t Take Away My Heaven”, “Hercules”, “Can’t Stop My Heart From Loving You (The Rain Song)”, and, perhaps his best known song, “Everybody Plays the Fool.”
Throughout his career, Neville has worked with a wide range of artists including Branford Marsalis, Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, and Jimmy Buffet. In 1989, he joined singer Linda Ronstadt to record four duets for her album Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind, including the Grammy-winning #1 hits “Don’t Know Much” and “All My Life.” He has also contributed music for various films, TV shows and commercials.
