Ace Hood
Florida native and rapper Ace Hood was born Antoine McColister on May 11, 1988, in the city of St. Lucie. He originally had aspirations of becoming a professional football player, but when an injury shattered those dreams, he turned instead to rapping. He and some of the local rappers collaborated for form the group Dollaz & Dealz, and together they released a single “M.O.E.” in 2006. He performed locally for a while, but in 2007, was fortunate enough to meet DJ Khaled outside of the radio station office where the latter worked. DJ Khaled liked the demo tape that Ace Hood gave him, and quickly signed him to his label We the Best.
Ace Hood released his debut album in 2008, entitled Gutta, which featured singles such as “Cash Flow” with T-Pain and “Ride” with Trey Songz. The album managed to sell around 25,000 copies the week it was made available. He later appeared on DJ Khaled’s track “Out Here Grindin”, which shot to #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and allowed him the opportunity to work with artists such as Akon, Lil Boosie, Rick Ross, and Trick Daddy. In 2009, Ace Hood was featured as part of the XXL Magazine Freshman Class. Ace Hood would go on to release Ruthless in 2009 through Def Jam Records, followed by Blood, Sweat & Tears in 2011. He then dropped Trials & Tribulations in 2013, featuring the very popular single “We Outchea”, and later Beast of the South in 2014.
