Animal Collective
Originating in Baltimore, Maryland, Animal Collective is an experimental band comprised of Avery Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Deakin (Josh Gibb) and Geologist (Brian Weitz), although the line-up is not uniform and albums released under the name Animal Collective may include contributions from any or all of the band members. In 2000, the group released their first collaboration Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished. That summer, they played their first show together at The Cooler with Dogg and Pony, The Rapture, and Black Dice. Early in their career, members of the band wore masks on stage, but they gave them up in 2006 out of fear it would become too gimmicky. Animal Collective released the album Danse Manatee in 2001 and the following year, they released the live album Hollinndagain. They followed this with Campfire Songs and Here Comes the Indian in 2003, the latter of which was released on their newly formed label, Paw Tracks. Here Comes the Indian was the first record to feature all four members of Animal Collective. The group went on to release Sung Tongs (2004), Feels (2005), Strawberry Jam (2007), and Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009.) Animal Collective released the album Centipede Hz, on September 4, 2012.
