Bars and Melody
Formed in Bristol, England, Bars and Melody consists of rapper Leondre Devries (“Bars”) and singer Charlie Lenehan (“Melody”). The teenagers met in September of 2013 after Lenehan had seen many of Devries’ covers as a solo rapper. They competed in the 8th series of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014 after they were automatically entered into the semi-finals when head judge Simon Cowell pressed the “golden buzzer.” Their audition song was a version of Twista and Faith Evans’ song “Hope” with Devries replacing the original verses with ones protesting against bullying.
Bars and Melody were audience favorites and their audition video has been viewed on YouTube nearly 50 million times yet they placed 3rd in the competition. Despite not winning, it was announced that Bars and Melody have signed an initial one-single deal with Simon Cowell’s record label, SyCo. The music video of their song “Hopeful” was released on YouTube on July 7, 2014. Their debut single was released on July 27th and went straight to number five on the UK Singles Chart.
