Christy Turlington Burns
Christy Turlington Burns is an American model and filmmaker born in Walnut Creek, California on January 2, 1969. She was discovered by a local photographer at 14 years old riding a horse in Miami, Florida. She would model after school from the age of 14 to 16. At 18 years old she moved to New York City to model full time. Burns has been in advertising campaigns for a number of brands, including Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Prada, Calvin Klein, Maybelline, Escada and more. She has been featured in magazines like Elle, Vogue, Glamour, Allure, Tatler, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, L’Officiel, and Harpers Bazaar. In the 90’s she made an appearance in the documentary Unzipped about the fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi and the film Pret-a-Porter. In 2005 she started working with the humanitarian organization CARE and became their advocate for maternal health. She made her directorial debut in 2010 with the documentary No Woman, No Cry. In 2013 she directed the documentary Every Mile, Every Mother.
