DJ Premier
DJ Premier, born Christopher Edward Martin on March 21st, 1966 in Houston, Texas is a record producer and DJ whose influence spans both the genres of hip-hop and pop. Honing his skills as the campus DJ at Prairie View A&M University, DJ Premier debuted on the scene in 1989 as one-half of the group Gang Starr alongside MC Guru. Premier’s distinctive style of aggressive loops and heavy scratching has propelled him into the status as one of hip-hop’s most influential sound makers.
The Source ranked DJ Premier as the third greatest producer of all time and Vibe magazine also placed him close to the top spot at number two. Premier has collaborated with a long list of internationally recognized artists such as: Big L. Big Daddy Kane, Common, Bun B., Dr. Dre, The Game, Ludacris, Mos Def, Nas, Snoop Dogg, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Kanye West, Limp Bizkit, and Christina Aguilera. DJ Premier hosts a weekly radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio called Live From HeadQCourterz and also collaborated with DJ Mustard and DJ Khaled to produce the soundtrack for the videogame NBA 2K16.
In 2014 DJ Premier linked up with Royce da 5’9” to form the duo PRhyme and released an album of the same name. It achieved critical acclaim with Metacritic scoring the album with an average score of 84 out of 100.
