Eric Whitacre
Eric Whitacre is a Grammy-winning composer best known for his choral arrangements. His training began with high school marching bands and playing the synthesizer in a techno-pop band. He attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas to study music composition and upon discovering Mozart’s “Requiem,” had an epiphany to pursue classical composition. He studied under Ukrainian composer Virko Baley and eventually under John Corigliano and David Diamond at the renowned Juilliard School of Music.
Whitacre’s debut album was “Light & Gold” (2012), which won a Grammy. He has composed for the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, to name a few. He has also turned to film score work, contributing to the scores for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011) and “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016). He also has ideals in innovating music, giving a TED talk on virtual choirs.
