Erick Morillo

Born in 1971 in New York City, Erick Morillo was raised in both Colombia and in New Jersey during various parts of his childhood. His Colombian-American heritage exposed him to Latin music along with hip-hop, a cross-section that got him extremely interested in DJ-ing. After DJ-ing for weddings and parties for his family and friends, Morillo began working at a club in Weehawken, where he met El General, who was a star on the Latin reggae front. The two collaborated, and their brainchild was the 1992 song “Muevelo”, which went platinum.

In 1997, he founded Subliminal Records with his partners Harry Romero and Jose Nunez, and they focused on soulful but funky house beats. His first album entitled My World was released in 2004, and off that albums was the song “Break Down the Doors”, whose music video featured supermodel Naomi Campbell. His international fame came when he produced the Reel 2 Real song “I Like to Move It”, a single which was featured in both of DreamWorks’ Madagascar movies. He has released two albums to date, and will continue to make appearances at clubs and on television around the world.
