Fall Out Boy
Formed in Chicago in 2001, the band Fall Out Boy was the brainchild of musician friends Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman, and eventually added Patrick Stump and Andy Hurley to the lineup. They made various appearances at colleges and other local venues, and in 2002, feeling pressured to release a compilation of some sort, they put out a collection of songs which they titled Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend. The group toured with an additional two members, who later left shortly before the debut of their first album Take This to Your Grave, put out through Fueled By Ramen in 2003. The next year, they appeared on the cover of Alternative Press magazine, and gained a tremendous following thanks to the airtime they got at Hot Topic stores.
The band went on to release an EP in 2004, but had a tremendous breakthrough with their 2005 sophomore album From Under the Cork Tree, featuring the single “Sugar, We’re Goin Down”. The album nabbed them a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and sold just under 3 million copies in the United States. Fall Out Boy would later release the album Infinity on High, selling 260,000 copies the first week, followed by Folie à Deux in 2008 and Save Rock and Roll in 2013.
