Freddie Gibbs
Gary, Indiana, rapper Freddie Gibbs was born Frederick Tipton on June 14, 1982. After gaining an interest in rapping, Gibbs signed to Interscope Records in 2006 and was thus prompted to move to Los Angeles to continue pursuing a rap career. He set out to be one of the notable street poets of the West, steadily working on his compilations and albums all the while. 2009 saw the release of his compilation work entitled The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs, which was made for free download on the Internet. Backed by the production team J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Gibbs released a mixtape in 2011 entitled Cold Day in Hell. This would be Gibbs’ ninth mixtape up to that point, as he was very prolific as a rapper in the Midwest and on the West Coast.
After releasing another mixtape and collaborating with various other artists, Freddie Gibbs finally debuted his first studio album in 2013, entitled ESGN. Without taking a break from the studio, he began working on his second album just after the first one was released. Eastside Slim, the second studio effort, was made available in 2014. Music from Gibbs was featured in the extremely popular Grand Theft Auto V video game.
