Guy Clark
Guy Charles Clark, known more commonly to the world simply as Guy Clark, was born on November 6, 1941, in the Texas town of Monahans. His grandmother, with whom he spent most of his time, operated the local hotel, and the people that young Clark would encounter at the hotel later became the subjects of his songs. It wasn’t until he moved to Houston and met fellow songwriters/musicians, such as Townes Van Zandt, that he discovered his passion for combining blues, folk, and country. In the early 1970s, Clark landed a contract with RCA, through whom he recorded and released his first album Old No. 1 in 1975.
He eventually moved to Warner Bros. as his label, but from there he enjoyed an extremely successful career that has led him to release more than 20 studio albums, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004, and won the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Shortly after his wife, Susanna, passed away, Clark released a very heartfelt album entitled My Favorite Picture of You, a tribute to her, and which debuted as #12 on the Billboard Country chart.
