Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is an Icelandic professional strongman, actor, and former professional basketball player born in Reykjavik, Iceland on November 26, 1988. He is best known for his role as Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the show Game of Thrones. Björnsson started his career as a basketball player. He played on the teams Breiðablik, FSu Selfoss, and KR until 2008 when he sustained an ankle injury. He also played for the Icelandic junior national basketball team from 2004 to 2006. In 2010 Björnsson started competing in strongman competitions in Iceland. Björnsson has won numerous strongman competitions. He is the first person to win the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man and World’s Strongest Man in the same year. In 2014 he was cast as Gregor Clegane in the HBO show Game of Thrones. He has also made appearances or competed on the shows Born Strong, The World’s Strongest Man, A League of Their Own, Heavy Bubbles, Keith Lemon: Coming to America, and E:60. Björnsson made his debut in film in 2017 in the movie Zon 261 and has since had roles in the films Devilish Deeds, Beast, Kickboxer: Retaliation, and Hamlet Pharon.
