Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai are a British funk and jazz fusion band. The band consists of members Jay Kay, born Jason Luis Cheetham in Stretford, England, Derrick McKenzie, Sola Akingbola, Rob Harris, Matt Johnson, born on February 3rd, 1969 in Bournemouth, England, Paul Turner, born on March 11th, 1968, and Nate Williams. The group has seen various member changes throughout the years but the lead singer, Jay Kay, has been there from the start.
The group started when Jay Kay’s home demos caught the attention of the Acid Jazz label. In 1992 the group released their first single called “You Gonna Learn?” The next year the band released their first full length album called Emergency on Planet Earth through Sony Entertainment. The next year they released a follow up album called The Return of the Space Cowboy. The group began to get major airplay in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. They broke into the American market with their third album Travelling the World Without Moving in 1996. Jamiroquai went on to release 5 more albums up to 2017.
In 1997 Jamiroquai won a MOBO Award for Album of the Year for the album Travelling Without Moving. The band has been nominated for numerous other awards, but their next win came in 2006 where they won a MVPA in the category for Best Director of a Male Artist for the song “Feels Just Like It Should.”
