Jason Mraz
A native of Virginia, singer Jason Mraz was born on June 23, 1977, in the town of Mechanicsville. A road trip to California inspired him to stay in San Diego semi-permanently, and he found a coffee house where he could perform once a week, staying at that gig for almost three years. After recording and releasing an album of his live coffee shop performances, Jason Mraz was signed to Elektra Records, through which he put out his 2002 album Waiting for My Rocket to Come. The single “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry)” shot to the #15 slot on the Billboard Hot 100, and three years later, he was back in the studio to release Mr. A-Z, featuring his #5 hit on the Billboard 200 “Wordplay”. He then went on tour with Alanis Morissette as her opening act, as well as with the Rolling Stones.
Jason Mraz’s success only continued to grow with the release of his third album We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things., which featured the widely played hit “I’m Yours”, which spent a total of 76 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 list and went seven times Platinum. In 2010, he won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song “Make it Mine” and for Best Pop Collaboration for his song with Colbie Caillat, titled “Lucky”. He followed these achievements with the albums Love is a Four Letter Word in 2012 and Yes! in 2014.
