Jimmy Cliff
Jimmy Cliff is a venerated performer in reggae culture and an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. He is one of only two living musicians to be awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit. In addition to performing ska and reggae music, he’s also an actor, which many contemporary audiences will remember him for. After signing to Island Records in 1964, his music became one of the founding classic forces of the original ska movement.
In his six decades-long career, Jimmy Cliff has released singles of both his own original work and covers, which will be immediately recognized including “Wonderful World, Beautiful People,” “Many Rivers to Cross,” “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” “The Harder They Come,” “Reggae Night,” and “Hakuna Matata,” or perhaps his cover versions of Cat Stevens’s “Wild World” and Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now.”
