John Amos
John Amos is an American actor born in Newark, New Jersey on December 27, 1939. He is best known for his role on the mini series Roots and for his role as James Evans, Sr. in the television show Good Times. Amos became well known in the 70s in his first major television role as Gordy in The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He has also had roles in the shows and films Maude, Let’s Do It Again, Touched by Love, The Beastmaster, Dance of the Dwarves, Die Hard 2, Ricochet, Without a Pass, Mac, Night Trap, Countdown, Shadowboxing, Zombie Hamlet, Act of Faith, Tamales and Gumbo, The Ranch, Two and a Half Men, My Baby’s Daddy, The West Wing and many more. Throughout his career he has been nominated for several awards and has won three TV Land Awards.
