KT Tunstall
Singer and guitarist KT Tunstall was born Kate Victoria Tunstall in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland on June 23, 1975. KT Tunstall was adopted when she was only a few weeks old, and her adoptive family showed no interest in music. In her early 20s, KT Tunstall played in a variety of bands, and after catching the eye of scouts, KT Tunstall found herself with a record deal and studio time to work on her debut album. Eye to the Telescope was released in 2004, and shortly after KT Tunstall was asked to perform on the music television program Later … with Jools Holland after rapper Nas backed out. She performed her song “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”, and from then on attracted international attention. Her debut album was re-released, reaching the #3 slot on the British charts. “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” charted at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., and was later sung on American Idol by contestant Katherine McPhee.
In 2006, KT Tunstall released an acoustic album entitled KT Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza, which she followed with Drastic Fanatic in 2007, Tiger Suit in 2010, and Invisible Empire/Crescent Moon in 2013. In 2007, KT Tunstall was nominated at the Grammy Awards in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her single “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”. She was also nominated in 2007 for a BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist, which she had won the year before.
