Lil Kim
Kimberly Denise Jones, known to the rap world as Lil’ Kim, was born on July 11, 1975 , in Brooklyn, NY. She was heavily influenced as a young teenager by the original members of the group Junior M.A.F.I.A., who she would hang around with frequently. Under the guidance of Biggie Smalls, who was at that time leading the group, Junior M.A.F.I.A released Conspiracy in 1995, and Lil’ Kim’s appearance on their track “Player’s Anthem” gained her the fame she needed to make her career.
With the help of producers Jermaine Dupri and Sean “Puffy” Combs, Lil’ Kim released her debut album Hard Core in 1996, which peaked at #11 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and as #3 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. In total, her album sold over 2,000,000 copies and stayed on the Billboard 200 chart for 47 weeks. Lil’ Kim brought rap back into the hands of the women with her raunchy, in your face lyrics. She has gone on to release four studio albums in total, and has appeared on numerous tracks of fellow rappers.
