Born in September 6, 1967, Macy Gray or legally known as Natalie Renee Macintyre, is from Canton, Ohio. As a young girl, Macy Gray was teased because of her voice sounds different. However, she pursued her musical passion and studied playing classical piano music. She was influenced by soul musicians like Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder.  

She had a recording contract with Atlantic, but the label didn’t released her album as promised. So she then signed up with Epic. Her album “On How Life Is” was well-received by music critics. She then was nominated for a Grammys. She won a spot on Billboard 100, and received more Grammy nominations in 2001.
