Mary Chapin Carpenter
Born in February 21, 1958, Mary Chapin Carpenter is from Princeton, New Jersey. She started learning music when her mom gave her a guitar when she was still a child. Though actively playing until high school, she didn’t pursue music that much. However, by the time their family moved to Washington, D.C., she was immersed in the folk music scene.
Soon afterwards, Carpenter met guitarist John Jennings. They started performing together which led to making demo tapes which were sold in their concerts. Columbia Records took note of those tapes and invited Carpenter for an audition. By year 1987, Carpenter released her debut album “Hometown Girl.” The follow-up album was released in 1989 having the title “State of the Heart.”
