Nanci Griffith
Nanci Carole Griffith was born on July 6, 1953 in Austin, Texas. She is an American folk and country singer and songwriter. She got her first taste of success after her move to Nashville, Tennessee, where she released her debut album Lone Star State of Mind and two Country Top 40 hits: a cover of Julie Gold’s From a Distance and I Knew Love. She is the recipient of the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album for her work Other Voices, Other Rooms, a collection of covers of the songs that influenced her most. In 2008, she was awarded the Americana Trailblazer Award by the Americana Music Association. Her most recent album, Intersection, was released in 2012.
