Outkast
Formed in 1992, Outkast is an extremely popular hip-hop duo comprised of André Benjamin, who performs as André 3000, and Antwan Patton, performing as Big Boi. The two met while they were still in high school, forming their duo shortly after meeting. They signed a contract with LaFace Records, and debuted their album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in April of 1994, viewed by many as a magnum opus when it comes to southern hip hop. This initial success was followed by their second album ATLiens, released in 1996, which went to #2 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the single “Elevators (Me & You)”.
Outkast would go on to release Aquemini in 1998, followed by the 2000 album Stankonia, which went four times Platinum and featured the singles “Ms. Jackson” and “So Fresh, So Clean”. The album won Best Rap Album at the 2001 Grammy Awards. The two would later release the double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which was certified Diamond and sold more than 11 million copies. The album was preceded by “The Way You Move” by Big Boi and “Hey Ya!” by André 3000. It would go on to win the 2004 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. After providing the soundtrack to the movie Idlewild, Outkast went on hiatus until 2014, during which time the two reunited to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
