Rachel Platten
Singer-songwriter Rachel Platten was born on May 20, 1981 in Newton Center, Massachusetts. Since age five, she studied classical piano and started studying guitar in high school. She attended Trinity College and majored in international relations. While at Trinity, she was a member of the a capella group, the Trinitones. After graduation, she held an internship with a record label in Trinidad and performed with a band throughout the Caribbean. This led her to move to New York City in 2006 to pursue music as a career.
In 2003, she independently released her debut album, “Trust in Me,” and did not follow up with another album until 2011’s “Be Here.” The song “1,000 Ships” off of “Be Here” reached number 24 on the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart. Platten’s song “Fight Song” gained a lot of attention after being featured in an episode of the ABC Family series, “Pretty Little Liars” in December 2014. In early 2015, she signed with Columbia Records and officially released “Fight Song” as a single. She also released the “Fight Song EP” in May 2015. “Fight Song EP” reached number 20 on the Billboard Top 200, and the single “Fight Song” reached number one on the Adult Pop Songs chart and number six on the Billboard Hot 100. She was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards in 2015, and toured with Colbie Caillat and Christina Perri in summer 2015.
