Rapsody
Rapsody is the stage name of the American rapper Marianna Evans. She was born in Snow Hill, North Carolina on January 21, 1983. Evans started her music career while attending North Carolina State University. She joined the hip hop collective H20 and its spinoff group Kooley High. While she was with Kooley High they released one EP and two albums. She was noticed by the producer 9th Wonder who had Evans rap on his sophomore album The Dream Merchant Vol. 2. In 2008 she started her solo career and signed with 9th Wonder’s label It’s A Wonderful World Music Group. In 2010 she released her debut mixtape titled Return of the B-Girl and has since released the mixtapes Thank H.E.R. Now, For Everything, and She Got Game. In 2012 she released her debut EP titled The Black Mamba and has since released the EPs Beauty and the Beast and Crown. She released her debut studio album in 2012 titled The Idea of Beautiful. In 2017 she released her second studio album titled Laila’s Wisdom. That same year she was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song.
