Rich Homie Quan
Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan was born Dequantes Lamar on October 4, 1989, and initially had an interest in becoming a professional baseball player. When that dream did not come to fruition, he turned to rapping. After serving a jail sentence for burglary, he decided to get serious about music, releasing his debut mixtape Still Going In in 2012, featuring the single “Differences”. He toured alongside Trinidad James the next year, and provided guest vocals on the Gucci Mane album Trap House III. His mixtape Still Goin’ In (Reloaded) was recognized in 2013 by Rolling Stone as the tenth greatest mixtape of the year.
In the summer of 2013, the single “Type of Way” was released by Def Jam Recordings, and the success it brought the rapper was the catalyst for him to sign to the label. Rich Homie Quan followed up with I Promise I Will Never Stop Going in two months after the release of his very popular single, and the album shot to #42 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Rich Homie Quan later appeared on the cover of XXL as part of the Dirty Dozen freshman 2014 class.
