Salaam Remi
Born in Queens, New York, on the 14 of May, 1972, producer, musician, composer and arranger, Salaam Remi has been in the music industry for more than twenty years. He has admitted that his biggest influence was probably his father, veteran musician, Van Gibbs, who constantly surrounded him with music and instruments while he was growing up. It is no wonder the, that Remi’s first musical credit is playing the keyboard on Kurtis Blow’s rap album, Kingdom Blow.
Louder than Life, a subsidiary of Sony Music and Remi’s own label, has signed artists like the renowned Collie Buddz. Remi describes Louder than Life as being a label that would focus on new, young artists and their development, across genres such as hip hop, pop, reggae amongst others.
Remi has worked with international hit artists such as rapper Nas, Fergie and the late Amy Winehouse. Winehouse’s posthumous “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” had Remi as one of the producers, and was called an admirable tribute.
He has been nominated thrice for the Grammy Awards, twice for “Best R&B song” in 2009 and 2013. He was also nominated for a Black Reel Award, for his work on the score of the 2012 movie, Sparkle. He has also been lauded for his scores for movies like The Departed, Sex and the City and Blood Diamond.
