Saxon
Saxon is a British heavy metal band and one of the core bands representing the new wave of British heavy metal alongside Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Raven, and Motörhead. The two continuous members, Biff Byford (vocals, bass) and Paul Quinn (guitar) originally formed the band with other members and toured with Motörhead. The line-up presently includes Doug Scarratt (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass), Nigel Glockler (drums).
Saxon has released twenty-two albums to date, with their most recent, “Thunderbolt,” in 2018. Like many British metal bands, their success isn’t a matter of charting singles, but is measured in dedicated fans showing up to concerts. As it is, their alums have scored as high as #5 for “Wheels of Steel” (1980) on the UK Albums chart, and have modest followings in the US, Sweden, and Germany. The bands Metallica and Pantera have acknowledged Saxon as an influence.
