Shirley Murdock
Shirley Murdock is an American R&B singer and songwriter born in Toledo, Ohio on May 22, 1957. She is best known for her hit single “As We Lay” that was released in 1986. She started her music career as a backing singer for Roger Troutman’s family band, Zapp. In 1986 she was signed as a solo artist to the label Elektra Records and released her debut single titled “No More”. The song charted at number 24 on the Billboard R&B singles chart. That same year she released her debut studio album titled Shirley Murdock!. The album charted at number 44 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 9 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and was certified Gold. She has since released the albums A Woman’s Point of View, Let There Be Love!, Home, and Soulfood. Murdock has also released one live album and one compilation album. In 2005 she made her debut in film in the movie Sweating in the Spirit and also had a role in the 2007 film First Cousins.
