Stromae
Stromae is the stage name of the Belgian rapper, singer, songwriter, and musician Paul Van Haver. He was born in Etterbeek, Brussels, Belgium on March 12, 1985. He became well known in 2009 after his song “Alors On Danse” charted at number one in several European countries. While in school, he started a rap group with several of his friends. In 2000 he started rapping under the stage name Opmaestro and later changed it to Stromae. He founded the rap group Suspicion with the rapper J.E.D.I. and they released the single “Faut que t’arrete le Rap…” The group broke up and in 2007 Stromae released his debut solo EP titled Juste un cerveau, un flow, un fond et un mic… The next year he signed a record deal with the labels Because Music and Kilomaitre. In 2008 his song “Alors on danse” was played on a radio station in Brussels and he was quickly signed with Vertigo Records. In 2010 he released his debut studio album titled Cheese and followed it up in 2013 with his second studio album Racine carée. He has also released two mixtapes and a video album. Throughout his career he has been nominated for numerous awards and has won 15 Music Industry Awards, 2 World Music Awards, 4 Victoires de la musique Awards, 5 Octave Awards and others.
