Tenacious D
Tenacious D is a comedy rock duo comprised of guitarist, vocalist, actor, comedian, and producer Jack Black and his straight-man assistant guitarist and backing vocalist Kyle Gass. They started their act with the HBO original series “Tenacious D” from 1997 to 2000, which led them to tour opening for artists such as Beck, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and Tool. They brought in Dave Grohl (drums) of Foo Fighters, Warren Fitzgerald (guitar) of Oingo Boingo, and Page McConnell (keyboard) of Phish to record their self-titled debut album in 2001, which was certified multi-platinum and gold.
Tenacious D continued their success with the 2006 album “The Pick of Destiny,” likewise certified gold and platinum, and included appearances by Meat Loaf and the late Ronnie James Dio. This was also a film released at the same time which told the story of two slacker rockers on a quest to obtain a legendary guitar pick. Thanks to Jack Black’s prolific acting and comedy career, Tenacious D is a continuing staple that gets revived to tremendous popularity in between other projects.
