Thomas Newman
Thomas Newman is a score composer for film and TV, born into a musical family in which his father was composer Alfred Newman, and his siblings, uncles, and even cousins are all composers. Audiences may be most familiar with Thomas Newman’s whimsical, yet dark, score for the HBO TV series “Six Feet Under.” In film, he was first tutored by composer John Williams while composing for a scene in “Return of the Jedi” (1983).
Thomas Newman’s body of work now encompasses the scores for the films “Less Than Zero” (1987), “Fried Green Tomatoes” (1991), “Scent of a Woman” (1992), “The Shawshank Redemption” (1994), “Meet Joe Black” (1998), “The Green Mile” (1999), “Finding Nemo” (2003), and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” (2004), among many. He is the recipient of one Annie award, two BAFTA awards, one Emmy award, and six Grammy awards.
