Tori Kelly
Tori Kelly was born Victoria Loren Kelly on December 14, 1992 in Wildomar, California. She appeared on “America’s Most Talented Kids” in 2004 and was signed to Geffen Records afterwards, but was later released from her contract.
Kelly began posting Youtube videos of her singing in 2007 and gained a lot of followers after posting a video of her singing a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ Bout You” in 2012. She auditioned for season 9 of “American Idol” and made it to Hollywood week, but did not get to the top 24. She released an EP, “Handmade Songs by Tori Kelly,” on her own label Toraay Records in May 2012. “Handmade Songs…” made it into the top ten pop albums on iTunes. It sold 14,000 copies and reached number nine on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. She released a single, “Fill a Heart,” which was written for the “Child Hunger Ends Here” campaign run by ConAgra Foods and Feeding America. In September 2013, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records. Under Capitol Records, she released a second EP entitled “Foreword,” and it sold more than 16,000 copies and reached number 16 on the Billboard Top 200. On November 1, 2013, she opened for Ed Sheeran at Madison Square Garden. The song “Silent” was written and recorded by Kelly for “The Giver” soundtrack. In December 2014, MTV announced that Kelly was on their Artists to Watch list. Her next single, “Nobody Love,” was released in February 2015 preceding the release of her debut full-length album, “Unbreakable Smile,” in June 2015.
