Vicente Fernandez
Mexican singer and actor Vicente Fernandez was born on February 17, 1940, in the town of Guadalajara, and from a young age was fascinated with the rancher lifestyle that was portrayed in the movies he loved. Vicente Fernandez picked up the guitar when he was a not even 8 years old, and began singing the songs of the ranchera style shortly after. Though his early music career did not provide much success, he was later offered a contract by the label Discos CBS in 1966, with whom he released many of his records and singles, including the first song “Perdóname”.
Since his first ever recording back in the 1960s, Vicente Fernandez has been christened the King of Ranchera music, and has released over 50 albums in the span of his career. He has been nominated for and won the award for Regional Mexican Artist a number of times, earned the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, and was nominated for Artist of the Year in 2010. Vicente Fernandez has also appeared in dozens of movies, as his acting career began in 1971.
