Virgil Abloh
Virgil Abloh is an American fashion designer and DJ born in Rockford, Illinois on September 30, 1980. He has been the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear collection since March 2018. He is also the chief executive officer at the Milan-based label Off-white, which he founded in 2013. After graduating from college, he started interning at Fendi in 2009 alongside Kanye West. In 2011 he served as the artistic director for Kanye West and Jay-Z’s album Watch the Throne. Abloh started his first company in 2012 named Pyrex Vision. Within a year he closed the company because it was only an artistic experiment. In 2013 he started his first fashion house Off-White that is based in Milan, Italy. In March 2018 he was named the artistic director for Louis Vuitton menswear ready line. He became the first African-American to hold that position. His first collection for Louis Vuitton was shown at 2018 Men’s Fashion Week at the Palais-Royal gardens in Paris. In 2011 he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package for his work on the album Watch the Throne. He won an Urban Luxe Award in 2017 at the British Fashion Award and that same year won designer of the Year at the GQ men of the year awards.
