Ziggy Marley

The son of the most recognizable figure in reggae music Bob Marley, singer Ziggy Marley was born David Nesta Marley on October 17, 1968, in Kingston, Jamaica. His formal introduction into the music business was singing alongside his siblings and his father for the recording “Children Playing in the Streets”, and the young group was christened The Melody Makers, releasing an EP titled Play the Game Right in 1985. Though they released more albums in the years to come, Ziggy Marley pursued a solo career around the same time he started becoming politically active. He established the record label Ghetto Youths Crew and released his debut solo album Dragonfly in 2003, followed by Love is my Religion in 2006. The sophomore album won him a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, and he followed it with the 2009 release of Family Time, a children’s album.

Aside from a successful music career, Ziggy Marley was instrumental in founding the organization known as Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment (URGE), which benefits children living in Jamaica and Ethiopia.
